Job fair for persons with disabilities organised in VRC

 Vocational Rehabilitation Centre under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India in collaboration with Directorate of Disability Welfare, Government of Odisha, Odisha Mining Corporation, other corporates and international NGO Sightsavers organised a job fair for persons with disabilities (PWDs). The Job Fair was inaugurated by the Saswat Mishra, Secretary of Women & Child Development Department. The function was attended P.C Das, CMD, National Handicapped Finance Development Corporation, Ashok Kumar Sahoo, Executive Director, NALCO, S.C Padhy, Director (HR), NALCO Kasturi Mohaptra, Disability Commissioner and Akbar M. Alam from Sightsavers. The job fair was attended by large number of youth with disabilities across the state.
From Ganjam, Bolangir, Gajapati and Rayagada a large number of PWDs from Sightsavers supported Odisha Social Inclusion Project had participated in different selection process conducted by HR hiring companies. In the job fair community based employment strategies were exhibited by Sightsavers and its partner organizations JAN JAGARAN, ADHAR, CCD & AKSSUS. The training cum employment model created in partnership with CUTM, Café Coffee Day and Sightsavers was highly appreciated and it was decided to scale it up further to benefit more hearing and speech impaired persons. Low Vision devices and other assistive aids and appliances used by visually impaired persons in job stations are displayed by Sightsavers.

The job fair was attended by Fast Track Career, MAK-Talent Search and PNV Venture, Edu-Tech, Dr. Reedy Foundation, CUTM, TCS and Mission Employment etc. Government institutes like ORMAS, KVIC, NHFDC, Odisha Rural Livelihood Mission, RUDSETI, ALIMCO, State Institute of Disability Rehabilitation (SIDR) also participated in the programme. The programme was coordinated by R.K. Sharma, Assistant Director, VRC and OSIP State Project Coordinator Dipti, OSIP Project Coordinators Santosh, Ms. Priyanka, Mr. Nanda and Mr. Chaitanya assisted the event and supported assistance to the participants and employers. Mr. Mandal from VRC gave vote of thanks to the organizers and sponsors of the event.
