Children with Disabilities get a Resource Centre to Learn

A district-level Model Resource Centre for Children with Disabilities was inaugurated by Sightsavers in association with Jharkhand Education Project Council and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in Hazaribag, Jharkhand.

The Centre is the first of its kind in the district and is supported by Oracle. As a part of Sightsavers’ Inclusive Education Programme, seven children with disabilities were provided with a laptop and a mobile phone each at the occasion.

Sightsavers’ Inclusive Education Programme is implemented in 10 districts across five states, namely: Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha. The programme prioritises technical support to Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan for training and capacity building of general teachers to address education needs of the Children with Disabilities with special focus on children with visual impairment.

Shri Ravishankar Shukla, IAS- Deputy Commissioner at Hazaribag appreciated the initiative by Sightsavers to strengthen the learning system of children with disabilities in the state.
